![]() ![]() Some vendors will distribute their drivers for use with Windows or Mac OSX. On a computer there's already a keyboard present so commercial hardware would never use that scheme and instead build their controller to work with either a specific device driver or a generic input device like a joystick, if applicable. Most specialized hardware however come with their own USB controller. For my PS4 (or a PC), it's the exact same as if I had a usb keyboard and pressed the Q key. For example, when I hit the handbrake, I've programmed it to send a 'Q' keypress. With the Arduino, I use a keyboard software library and the hardware already has a serial usb controller. It all depends on what kind of signal you send to your PC/Console. Happy to answer any question you might have! Here are a few crappy shots I took earlier: I need to box this whole thing up into a more elegant and permanent setup but I'm happy to report that it works like a charm and I'll be enjoying much more immersive RX sessions from now on! The handbrake comes with two wires (single switch) and the shifter comes with four (shifter up, shifter down) so I simply modified my program to read 3 digital pins instead of one. I wrote a simple program detecting an "on" signal on one of the 'duino's digital pins and then sending a keyboard character, which I then assigned to a control in-game, in this case the handbrake. 100% satisfaction and would recommend everyone looking for a similar solution to check out his stuff!Ī few months ago I had made some tests using Project Cars (which supports USB keyboard inputs on PS4), a breadboard and an Arduino. He normally builds them with their own USB controller boards but I needed the exposed wires so he custom-built my order as I wanted. The build quality is absolutely stunning. ![]() He sells machined sim hardware over on Ebay. ![]() I settled for this Russian guy I've seen posted here before, Dim Sim, (not sure I can link but here goes: ). I saw tutorials for a full blown hydraulic handbrake setup but felt it was too complicated and potentially messy (don't want hydraulic fluid on my new couch!). I've looked at different options including very expensive ones. What I ended up with might not impress anyone really but I'm super stoked and really want to show it :) PC players have more options because of the ease of installing new device drivers on Windows but no such luck on PS4. I am an avid RX fan and as such I knew I needed a handbrake and a sequential shifter so I've started looking for suitable solutions. So I'm pretty new to the world of sim racing - played a bit of Project Cars when it got out, got a bit more serious this summer with Dirt 4 and I bought my first wheel (Logitech G29) when Project Cars 2 came out. ![]()
